Description

Critical care ventilation requires an in-depth knowledge of running a mechanical ventilator. Our learning objectives for this CE will include: 
- Advanced ventilatory physiology , physics of mechanical ventilation
- Ventilator modes and initial settings
- Interpreting PV loops
- Responding to alarms, and adjusting ventilator settings based on changing patient dynamics 
- Pharmacology for ventilator patients
- Nursing care including oral/ocular and advanced line placement/maintenance 
- Arterial blood gas interpretation (p/f ratios, AA gradients, acid base analysis) 
- Ventilator complications: Oxygen toxicity, biomechanics of VILI, VAP 

The Australian Veterinary Nurse and Technician (AVNAT) Regulatory Council has allocated (1) AVNAT CPD point to this continuing education activity.

Jennifer Lyons, CVT, LVT, MS, VTS(ECC)

Jennifer is an Emergency and Critical Care Veterinary Technician Specialist and in Utah, USA. She acquired her bachelors and masters degrees from UC Davis in animal biology with a focus in genetics and reproduction. After some time in research, including working in labs that pioneered the research for FIP treatment and feline genome mapping, she decided to transition into working in veterinary medicine. She was one of the first certified technicians in Utah, and achieved her VTS in 2021. She is a published author and experienced speaker. Outside of veterinary medicine she spends her free time adventuring with her husband, and being a doting mom to her four cats.
